Whether you're an amateur home user or aspiring filmmaker, learn DV from the ground up. From camera basics to techniques for shooting, and lighting and audio, this course will teach you the essentials of creating outstanding home videos. You might not become another Steven Spielberg out of the chute, but at least you'll have all the tools to begin.
In this lesson, learn about digital video and the formats and options available in the marketplace today. Also, pick up tips for researching and buying the right camera to fit your budget and expectations.
And. . . cut! Find out about shots, scenes, and sequences, and learn how to use your camera to get the shots you want. This lesson also covers camera stabilization techniques, and helps you become an on-the-go videographer.
Lighting can set a mood, enhance a special moment, or turn a perfectly good scene into a washed-out eyesore. Find out how to use proper lighting and exposure to make your subjects and video look great.
Nothing will make your picture look worse than bad sound. This lesson covers all-things sound -- voice, music, background and room noise, and recording in the great outdoors. Find out how to make your video memorable with great audio.
You can easily learn several basic concepts that help you deepen your understandig of the equipment you already own.
The topics covered are enlightening and thoughtful. As a beginner they provided insight to video recording I never would have thought of. I learned and put these lesson to use and I no longer feel that I'm just capturing events. I can now produce videos that family and friends look forward to seeing( I also use Sonys Platinum editing software). I must admit it took a lot of trial & error; but it was worth it.
Thanks Sony !!
What is the best way to shoot a dance recital in. Is sports lesson mode.
This was a terrific primer for the novice videographer on getting into digital home video.
I came away with a completely new perspective regarding video shoots and camcorders! All my future video shoots will now take into consideration the principles and elements I learned in this course, which should help to refine my skills and help me to become a much better videographer.
Thanks for making this course available to us!

I learned a lot from this course. I like the every-day approach and the tips and tricks...all very useful. I was curious about the "framing shots with the rule of thirds" as I don't find a definition of "the rule of thirds". Maybe you could add that to the lesson? Many thanks. I love all my SONY gear - and now I have Backstage101!
I wish i had read this before i had bought my camcorders but i did learn that ilive is firewire thanks
