But camera shake is primarily the result of the tremors that our bodies use as a feedback mechanism in our attempt to stand upright. Controlling your breathing, and slowing your heartrate and shooting between heartbeats do little compared to bracing yourself so your body isn't fighting gravity. Sitting, kneeling, lying, or bracing yourself against some rigid structure will do more to prevent camera shake than holding your breath.
Tremors happen at a rate of between 18 Hz and 22 Hz, so any shutter speed longer than about 1/40 second will contain the full magnitude of a tremor. The shorter the shutter speed, the smaller the portion of the tremor will be recorded in an image, but the narrower the angle of view, the greater impact that portion of the tremor will have on the image. That's why you should use a faster shutter speed with a longer lens.
But again, since the tremors are the primary source of camera shake, and the tremors are a feature of the system that helps us in our constant battle with gravity, camera shake is primarily vertical.
