Learned a great deal from this lesson and know more about what I can use with my HDTV to make it an even better HD experience.
What cable connectors should I purchase for my new Sony LCD KDL40Z100/S? I have seen them for $14.99 to $89.00. I only need a 6 foot cable.
Also what do you recommend to keep the screen clean?
The one thing that was missing from this course was the use of optical connections for sound. I just purchased a Sony surround sound receiver and hooked it to my Blue ray player and with HDMI and couldn't get any sound. I had to use a optical connection to transfer the sound. The HDMI only passed through the receiver.
It has been very helpful knowing the proper way to setup the HD tv using the correct type of cables.
For the novice or those that just haven't been able to keep up with technoligical advances (me), this course was extrememly easy in helping even the most non-geek person understand the differences in cables. One thing that I was surprised to find missing was if more expensive cables were really better or is this a marketing ploy with HDTV. For example, I've seen HDMI cables from $14.99 to an astounding $79.99 for the same length cable. Is gold connectors really that much better - or better at all? I was just kind of surprised this was not mentioned, particularly with all the options in HDMI cables available on the market. Overall though, a very informative article.
I bought a KDL46XBR6 and a PS3 for full HD and sound experience, however I'm pretty dissapointed since I'm only able to get Dolby Digital and/or 5.1 Ch. sound from the the PS3 to my receiver (Bose 1-2-3 GS Series III) only for games downloaded from PlaystationStore. When I'm playing regular Blueray and/or DVDs the only sound signal from the PS3 is PCM 2.0. Anyone has an idea how to solve this problem?
